Matthew Hancock MP, Minister for Business, Innovation and Skills, visited Bicester Heritage for a tour of the Centre for Historic Motoring and Aviation Excellence on Tuesday 9th September. The Minister experienced at first hand the substantial investment that Bicester Heritage have undertaken to preserve and nurture the skills required to secure a strong, dynamic future for historic vehicles and aircraft by meeting the on site automotive Specialists.

Matther Hancock MP in an E Type Jaguar at Bicester Heritage OxfordshireHe inspected the extensive refurbished historic buildings where more than a dozen Specialists have chosen to locate themselves at the UK’s last remaining intact WW2 bomber station, taking advantage of this centre of engineering excellence devoted to maintaining an industry worth £4.3bn to the UK’s economy.  He discussed the support and benefits the Specialists had experienced in building their businesses together in a collegiate environment at Bicester Heritage.  Specialists talked of the synergies between their respective businesses, with one reporting over a 1,000 visitors as ‘passing trade’ to his Bentley engineering operation.  Meanwhile he observed historic racing cars were undergoing preparation for the Goodwood Revival this weekend and learned of the national, accredited Apprenticeship course sponsored by Bicester Heritage and recently launched at Banbury and Bicester College.

The Minister remarked that ‘There is no reason Bicester Heritage can’t become the global hub in heritage cars and planes – bringing talent, enthusiasm and business sense together.’ He went on to say that at Bicester Heritage ‘they apply a start-up hub attitude to the classic car business – an inspiring idea becoming reality.’ He finished his tour with a drive in a Jaguar E-Type, kindly lent by U Drive Cars, around the airfield and drove to Bicester North Station in the famous classic car before returning to London that evening.’
