The open road endurance race which ran from 1927 to 1957 was one of history’s most fantastic motoring spectacles. Since 1977 it has operated as a regularity race for vintage and classic cars and to this day provides the opportunity to catch a glance of some of the rarest and most exciting four wheeled machines at full chat on the Italian roads and mountain passes. The aim? To complete 1000 miles in 36 hours on normal roads from Brescia to Rome and back.
Bicester Heritage entered the prototype Riley MPH which was given the supercharged straight six ‘ERA treatment’ in 1934 and a 1938 Riley Sprite four cylinder which was much campaigned in period by Lady Mary Grosvenor. Support was provided by the ever trusty Bicester Heritage Land Rover Defender.
