Bicester Heritage donates more than £25,000 to StarterMotor

Ticket sales and memberships combine for record figure

Bicester Motion has presented automotive charity StarterMotor with its largest donation to date, having raised £21,658 through event ticket sales in 2023.

The charity receives £1 from every adult ticket sold to the Scramble and Flywheel, which returned in June to celebrate a decade of Bicester Heritage, and attendees are given the option to increase their contribution. More than £400 was raised through voluntary donations during the year, which has helped beat the figure raised in 2022 by £1000.

A further £5000 has been raised by Scramblers via its membership fees, taking the total to £26,853.

StarterMotor is a Bicester Heritage-based charity that puts young people in old cars, operating a 10-car fleet of classics that are loaned to ambassadors to attend events. The funds help to maintain the cars, maximising the young enthusiasts’ exposure to classics, and helps the charity attend events up and down the country.

In all, StarterMotor attended 22 events in 2023, including every Scramble, Flywheel and partner events such as the Hagerty Hillclimb and Festival of the Unexceptional, as well as organising career days for local schools and colleges.

David Withers, CEO of StarterMotor, said: “The support from Bicester Motion cannot be overstated. It goes far beyond donations, too, because events such as the Scramble give us the perfect chance to show enthusiasts and families what we do and how they can get involved.”

Liz Pilling, associate director of events at Bicester Motion, said: “These donations to StarterMotor are hugely important to Bicester Motion, and we witness the results every day around Bicester Heritage as StarterMotor’s classics come and go with young ambassadors behind the wheel.

“To see the figure boosted by the generosity of our Scramble attendees is brilliant, and underlines the real community spirit Bicester Heritage and the wider classic car movement is built on.”
