Little Car Company relaunches Blower with Bentley
Small-scale Bentley Blower has been unveiled
The Bentley 'Blower' is back, and in a rather unexpected way. The Crewe manufacturer has enlisted The Little Car Company to create an 85% scale version that is road legal.
Blower Junior is a faithful recreation of the Team Car in the Heritage Collection, Sir Henry 'Tim' Birkin's car from the 1929 24 Hours of Le Mans and the basis of the 12 Continuation Cars created recently. It was also one of the stars of Flywheel in June.
Being fully road legal, the Blower Junior is a first for the Bicester Heritage-based Little Car Company and measures 3.7 metres in length. Two adults can fit comfortably, seated in tandem, and the Blower Junior will carry them up to 65 miles – further than a Citroën Ami.
The supercharger, its defining feature in period, retains its importance by being home to the charging port.
Engine turned aluminium forms the dash, just like in the original, but the fuel pressure pump has been repurposed to be the drive mode selector. Its version for the Testa Rossa J's manettino.
The battery charge level is shown in what would have been the ammeter and the gear – forward, reverse and neutral – is selected via the ignition advance control.
Mechanically, leaf springs have been retained along with friction dampers, but brakes are provided by Brembo. In its most powerful mode, the Blower Junior will reach 45mph – faster than a Citroën Ami.
The first 99 Blower Juniors made will be ‘Blower Green’, with matching chassis and wheels, plus the familiar Union Jack to match Team Car 2. A ‘2’ will grace the radiator grille and door, too, while the steering wheel will be rope bound.
The remarkable ‘little’ car was launched at special reception during Monterey Car Week. Build slots can be requested now via bentleyblowerjnr.com.
